Analyzing an advertisement (The Vauxhall Zafira)

According to the official website, ‘The Vauxhall Zafira is the original, compact, seven-seater family car that shows what can be achieved with clear thinking. Dynamic driving experience, interior comfort, seven-seater flexibility with sharp styling, cool interior finishers and impressive safety features’.

I am going to inquire into target market of this product and how potential consumers are attracted by it, pursuant to Maslow and Packard’s needs theory.

As regards geographic aspect of target market, as it was mentioned that safety, comfort and flexibility are the main values of the car, it can be concluded that Vauxhall Zafira, despite the specific weather conditions and climate of some countries, is suitable and appropriate in most part of the world.

Then, the demographic aspect, it seems, that the age of consumers should vary from 30 to 45 years for several reasons. Inasmuch as this car is not considered to be the cheapest one, purchasers should have a stable income so as to afford it (mostly mature people that have enough well-paid job). Then, because it is specious family car it is probable that parents, mostly fathers, as it was some kind of stereotype that was shown in advertisement, intend to gain it.

Lastly, the psychographic perspective, as it was depicted in advertisement, owners of Vauxhall Zafira, are for the most part, people with family, who need not only a lot of space in car (so as to travel and spend time together, having common activities), but also reliability and convenience are the most significant criteria, since priority of parents is safety of their children and themselves.

                    Maslow’ hierarchy

Now, turn to needs theories. Maslow’ hierarchy is following.
Concerning physical level, as people can breath it means that they are alive hence they can think about their safety. Ownership of Vauxhall Zafira suggests being in secure, having comfort, in other words, being as happy as possible. As for belonging and love, as person have such a spacious car; he can spend time with family and friends. Consequently, it leads to iron ties between person and those around him. So feeling of belonging and love is increasing. Next, self-esteem, as car has stylish design and looks highly presentable owner can feel respect of others, so self-esteem develops. What is more, as you realize that your family is ‘in reliable hands’ you feel more confidence. And, eventually, self –actualization, Vauxhall Zafira is considered to be the best example of problem solving. As it is enough huge, people may not only have space for different bags and staff, they can travel together, doing what they enjoy without absence of facilities.

Packard’s Eight Hidden theory

Now, I am planning to discuss Packard’s Eight Hidden theory. Zafira offers comfort, permanence and safety. In the issue, holder is happy, because car satisfies his emotional security needs. Then, as long as a person feels that his family is in secure and nothing can threaten it, he is sure that he has made a right decision (Reassurance of Worth). As for creative outlets, in advertisement the use of space was demonstrated in a creative way. Next, every purchase contains sense of power since person has a variety of choice and can find information about everything that he finds attractive, e.g.  using official website . As for roots, the advertisement was made in English, so there is a sense of identity in all English-speaking countries. Furthermore, in advertisement, children who are observing the car and its functions have different nationalities, so it means that this car is global. Last but not the least, immortality. Because it is a family car, children can see that their parents trust it, so in the future they also would like to but it. Besides, possibly a child can get exactly this car as the inheritance.

McDonald's Target Market and Motivation theory

                                                            Target Market
In today’s post I intend to analyze target market of McDonalds. Nevertheless, geographically McDonald’s is American brand it should be considered as international fast food restaurant as it exists in 119 countries worldwide. Inasmuch as McDonald’s Corporation offers fast-cooked, tasty, and what is more important localized food, that satisfies interests of regional markets (eg. In Asia soup is being served while in New Zealand meat pies are sold) the restaurant is popular all over the world. In case of class, this place can content needs people from E class (students, casual workers and etc.) because it is cheap to A class (bankers, lawyers and others) as they can save their time. Besides, people of all ages and statuses can enjoy eating there. A parent with children as it is quite nice place with friendly atmosphere and family breakfasts/lunches, teenagers since it is not expensive, mature busy people because there is free Wi-Fi there and it is quickly. As for psychographics, it is difficult to define whom exactly McDonald’s appeals to most of all. I suppose, because of the discussed benefits Aspires/Explorers/Strugglers, who are commonly young people, Mainstreamers, for whom comfort/family is important and probably Succedders (busy hard-working people, who get used to organize their time effectively) can be attracted by the restaurant.

It cannot be denied that advertising persuades and motivates people to buy definite products by belief of necessity. Now I am going to demonstrate how, according to Maslow theory, potential McDonald’s clients can be satisfied. To start with Physiological level, as we know, food is crucial part of people’s existence. Hence, if this necessity is not complied, people could not only think about anything they even could not survive. So McDonald’s offers people tool for existence. More than that, it is tasty and they can enjoy it. Then, safety. Although McDonald’s is fast food restaurant, what seems to be unhealthy, there is a variety of choice there, from wraps to salads. So nutrition, which is contained in food, gives people more energy for work (not worries about unemployment). Next, Love and Belonging, because it is some kind of a family restaurant, it can be said that McDonald’s strengthens family ties because parents and children can spend time in enjoyable atmosphere with each other, eating delicious food. Then, as McDonald’s is full of people, a person may feel belonging to the place and those around him. As regards esteem, as people enjoy their breakfast/lunch/dinner every time they can pay more attention on their work and life as a whole. As a result, success, family happiness and stability can be reached hence people can feel more confidence. And finally self-actualization, after eating McDonald’s food it seems that life is changed, everything that worries can be solving. Moreover, as McDonald’s participates in charity events people feel, that eating here, they help others (feeling of morally right decision).

Celebrity endorsement ‘Tiger Woods’

Celebrity Endorsement

It cannot be rejected that all over the world marketers consider celebrity endorsement as an efficacious advertising instrument. Precisely, ‘celebrity endorsement influences advertising effectiveness, brand recognition, brand recall, purchase intentions and even purchase behavior’ (Spry et al, 2011, pp.882-883.) Moreover, the latest study has vindicated that celebrity endorsement results in an auspicious relation toward endorsed merchandise mark (Till et al 2008, cited in Spry et all 2011 pp.883).

Established brand ‘Tag Heuer’ designs, fabricates and markets watches, chronographs and fashion accessories. According to its official website, each watch is an apotheosis of precision engineering, fineness and sporting heritage. It is well known that Tag Heuer has invested a lot in celebrity endorsement. Tiger Woods, self-programmed golf wizard, is one of the most congenial famous people, who have ever embodied the trademark as he represents mature wealthy successful men, who have achieved a lot in their lives.

Taylor (2008) emphasizes that Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods (was born in 1975 in California), who was extremely interested in golf from early childhood, started playing in competitions and won 30 junior tournaments at the age of 12. Woods, like no one else, is associated with a person who could surmount living conditions and complications. Traditionally golf was priority for white, rich and corporate players hence first Tiger’s obstacle was his African-American background. As an example, during a game he had been disqualified or penalized while others were not. Because of this he learnt to play a very clean game and to take his penalties without complaint (Taylor, 2008) As a result, he won every time and everywhere that typifies successful and steadfast man. Then at 16 he came into contact with professional golfers and realized his game had to be improved considerably if he was to make the difficult transition from junior golf to professional. Many if not most, promising golfers fail to make transition because of the extra technical demands, however, more significantly, because of the psychological pressure from both competitions and the media. Notwithstanding, commencing as an amateur, Woods studied professional techniques and with the time was in the centre of attention (ibid). As well it should be mentioned that Tiger represents intelligent and educated men as after graduation from school he was academically gifted (was offered a place by dozens of colleges and universities) and afterwards studied at Stanford university. Last but not the least, his charity involvement is highly valued. According to PGA Tour, Tiger Woods Foundation aids juveniles and has reached millions of young people worldwide by supplying unique experience and innovative educational possibilities. Foundation programs also include 35,000 square-foot education facilities, focus on promoting paths to college and eventually careers.

Kalb (2013) states that by 2008 he had won 14 professional emulations and had practically broke Jack Nicklaus’ record. These triumphs and sponsorship with multitudinous incorporations, such as Nike, made him the most high-paid athlete in the world. Besides, Kalb (2013) ascertains that until Thanksgiving of 2009, Tiger personified a reliable, happily married man with 2 infants. Because his reputation was so crystal-clear he attracts such corporate sponsors, as Accenture. However, when in 2009 media reported about his adultery with another woman such sponsors as Accenture, ATT, Golf Digest, Tag Heuer and etc. dropped him as he no more was linked to image of faithful, family, good-guy. Totally, in 2009 he forfeited $22 million because of the loss of sponsorship. Because Woods cheated his wife, but still was number 1 in the world, sport-related sponsors such, as Nike and Electronic Arts didn’t drop him despite the pressure. However, so as to reform situation Nike produced the now well-know commercial of a remorseful Woods, listening to counsel of his father, speaking from the burial place.
